Originally an 18th-century plantation, Bonaventure Cemetery is perched high on a sandy bluff overlooking the coastal marsh and is a short drive from the historic district of downtown Savannah.

The Lawton family plot contains this amazing life-size sculpture of Jesus bidding welcome at the Pearly Gates.

As sculptural works, memorial Monuments follow the artistic, spiritual and architectural trends of the time during which they were created. Our tours point out interesting markers from early Victorian times through the Art Deco era and recent modern additions.

Sculptor John Walz created this amazing rememberance of beautiful Gracie Watson in 1890.

Her hand rests upon the Tree of Life, symbolically "cut short", like her own life by pneumonia at age six.

We will visit her life-like marker, which is one of the most photographed in Bonaventure.

Experiencing the classic atmosphere of an afternoon at Bonaventure is a life changing event for many people, us included!

We have several stops planned on the grounds, and invite you to please step out and take photos or have a relaxing stroll along the bluff. Just let us know if there's something you would like to get out and see...that's why we're here!

Our advice? "Don't let your first visit to Bonaventure be in a hearse!"

Hop out and take a photo...or let us take one of you!
